Unexpected Alliances
When my phone vibrated, I stared at the screen. It was a message from Brooke. My heart raced as I opened it, the clock ticking down to Sienna’s wedding.
“I can’t believe what you sent me. Is this real?”
Her disbelief poured into each word. I could picture her eyes wide, likely glancing over her shoulder, worried Arthur might walk in at any moment.
“It’s real, Brooke. I promise. We need to talk.”
“How do I confront him? I feel like I’m losing my mind.”
“We do this together. We can expose him.” I took a deep breath. “Sienna needs to know everything. You deserve the truth.”
Brook’s reply was quick, revealing more of her heart than I expected. “I’ve been raising Ethan alone, trying to make ends meet while he plays house with your sister. I can’t let him just walk out of our lives.”
Each revelation cut deeper. “Then let’s make sure he doesn’t get away with it,” I urged, a spark of determination igniting between us. “What do you need? Evidence? A plan?”
“I need to be strong for Ethan. I can’t show him I’m scared.”
“Then let’s show Arthur that fear is not an option. We’ll get our lives back.”
Brooke’s message tore at my heart, her struggles so vivid in my mind. “You’re not alone in this. We’ll confront them at the wedding. Sienna won’t see it coming.”
“You’re right. I was too afraid until now. Thank you, Eleanor,” she replied, and I could almost hear her resolve building. “Let’s do this.”
