PART 5: The Ending
Fiona ran toward the stage. “Giselle, you can’t do this to your family!”
Giselle looked down at her. “A real family does not treat someone like dirt for years and then ask for help when they get caught.”
“We gave you our family name!” Fiona yelled.
“And my money paid for the house where you made me clean like a maid,” Giselle answered.
The whole room was dead quiet. Giselle told everyone that the big house in Monterey belonged to her company. Philip’s office building was bought with her cash. The doctors who saved Arthur were paid by her foundation. The money that saved Fiona and started Lola’s business was all hers.
“Everything you used to act like you were better than me was paid for by my bank account,” Giselle said.
Lola cried as she deleted her social media. Fiona fell into a chair, unable to speak. Philip walked to the stage and got down on his knees.
“Giselle, I lost my mind, but I still love you,” he begged.
People in the crowd made noise at how fake he was. Giselle looked down at him with sad eyes.
“When you thought I had nothing, you picked another woman and let your family insult me every day,” she said.
“We can fix it!” he cried.
“You don’t want to fix our marriage,” Giselle said. “You just want your rich life back.”
Philip lowered his voice. “Think about the start. What we had was real.”
“I thought about the start for years,” Giselle said softly. “That old memory is why I stayed so long while you were mean to me. But it’s over now.”
Herman handed Philip two sets of papers. The first was the divorce paper. The second was a paper firing him from his job as boss of his business. Giselle’s company owned most of his stock.
Philip looked at the papers, totally ruined. “You are taking my company.”
“I am not taking it,” Giselle said. “You lost it yourself every time you lied, stole, and signed fake papers.”
Philip sat on the floor with his head down. He had no lies left to tell.
