The family of TLC’s 1000-Lb. Sisters is facing an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time following the passing of their beloved cousin, Katie Slaton.
Her death has deeply affected her family, friends, and fans who had grown to adore her warm personality. Katie, only 37 years old, bravely battled a rare and aggressive form of stomach cancer, stage four gastric adenocarcinoma.
Despite undergoing chemotherapy and medical treatment, her illness progressed rapidly, leading to her passing on Monday, August 25, in Evansville, Indiana.
Katie’s cousin, Amanda Halterman — sister to Tammy and Amy Slaton — shared the devastating news on Instagram, posting a touching tribute to Katie alongside a photo of the cousins together, showing the love and bond they shared throughout her life.
“It is with a completely crushed heart and spirit that I have to post this,” Amanda wrote. “My little cousin went to sit at the feet of Jesus yesterday. She was a force of love and joy.”
Amanda continued her emotional message, emphasizing Katie’s loving nature: “She was the life of the party, my best friend, and someone who always gave love freely. Please pray for everyone who loved her and supported her journey.”
She added a personal note honoring Katie’s family, requesting prayers for her aunt, uncle, and cousins, particularly for the children and Natalie to remain strong during this incredibly difficult time, showing the depth of their shared grief.
